The immigrant ancestor, William Bogue (d. ca. 1681), was born in Berwick Co., Scotland. William was a soldier and was captured in battle and bannished as a prisoner of war to Virginia by the Lord Protector, Oliver Cromwell. After his servitude he settled in a Quaker area known as Nansemond during the period 1660-1670. First record of William Bogue surfaces in Council and General Court of Virginia dated April 5, 1671. He married Jane Edwards of the Virginia Isle of Wight settlement. They had at least three children, Robert, William and Margret, believed to have been born in Nansemond County. Descendants live in Virginia, North Carolina and elsewhere.
