Rev. John Brown was born near Londonderry, Ireland, the son of James and Jennett Stevenson Brown. He immigrated to America where he graduated from Princeton in 1749. He married Margaret Preston, daughter of John and Elizabeth Patton Preston. They had eleven children, 1755-1775, all born in Virginia. He and his wife followed their children to Kentucky in 1796. He died in at Frankfort, Kentucky, in 1803. Their son, Preston W. Brown, was born in 1775, in Augusta County, Virginia. He studied medicine with his uncle. He migrated to Kentucky with his parents in 1796 and settled in Woodford County. He married Elizabeth Watts, daughter of Colonel William and Mary Scott Watts, in 1803. They had five children. He practiced medicine in Woodford County. He died in Jefferson County, Kentucky, in 1826. Descendants lived in Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, and elsewhere.
