This book considers the ancestry of five immigrant families. The first is the family of Theobald Christler. He was born in 1709 to Leonhard and Anna Maria (Bender) Christler in Frankenthal, Germany. In 1719 he came to Pennsylvania with his parents and then to Virginia ca. 1736. The second family belongs to Johann Friedrich Baumgärtner. He was born in 1706 to Johann Jacob and Catharina (Willheit) Baumgärtner in Schwaigern, Germany. He came to Pennsylvania in 1732 and went directly to Virginia in 1736. The next immigrant family is actually the families of two brothers, Martin and Johannes (John) Hirsch (changed to Deer). They were born in 1715 and 1718 respectively to Andreas and Eva (Glaser) Hirsch in Täbingen, Germany. They came to America ca. 1746-1749. The third family was that of Johann Georg Dieter. He was born in 1699 to Johann Michael and Catharina (Frey) Dieter in Schwaigern, Germany. In 1720 he married Maria Margaretha Luttmann and immigrated with his family to Pennsylvania ca. 1727 and later to Virginia ca. 1734. The last family belongs to Johann Wilhelm Lotspeich (William Lotspeich). He was born in 1740 to Johann Conrad and Catharina Elisabetha (Ladenberger) Lotspeich in Frankenthal, Germany. He came to America ca. 1778.

The Germanna colony was located in Spotsylvania County but may also have been in part of Orange County, Virginia.
