The extracts in this volume all pertain to Montgomery County, but were taken from newspapers published outside the county. These newspapers include: The Albany news, The Albany patriot (Albany); Bainbridge Argus, Bainbridge weekly Democrat, Bainbridge weekly sun (Bainbridge); Columbus enquirer, Columbus sentinel and herald (Columbus); Central Georgian, Mercury, The Sandersville herald (Sandersville); Tri-weekly chronicle and sentinel (August); The Calhoun times (Calhoun); Dodge County journal, Eastman times, Times journal (Eastman); Early County news (Blakely); Dawson journal (Dawson); Gallaher's independent, Quitman free press, Quitman banner, Quitman free press (Quitman); The temperance banner, Greenesboro weekly gazette, Herald journal (Greenesboro); Montgomery monitor (Mount Vernon); Messenger (Macon); Georgia journal, Statesman and patriot, Southern recorder, Times and states rights advocate, Union recorder, Standard of union (Milledgeville); The Wire-Grass reporter, Thomasville times, Southern enterprise (Thomasville).
The extracts include deaths, marriages, legal notices, sheriff's sales, elections, jury lists, unclaimed letters from local post offices, and miscellaneous information of genealogical value.
