"Responsibility for the procurement and distribution of army supplies during the Revolutionary War was divided among a number of staff departments. They included the Quartermaster General's Department, the Commissary General of Military Stores Department, and the Commissary General of Stores and Provisions Department and successor agencies"--Introd.

These records include a "register of letters received by Alexander Church, Superintendent of the Continental Horse yard; a return of public property belonging to the Quartermaster General's Department; a ledger of Quartermaster General accounts; and 55 miscellaneous unbound records items. These items include letters, returns, payrolls, abstracts, memorandums, accounts, estimates, and lists that relate to supplying quartermaster stores, equipment, and transportation and to providing artificers, carpenters, and other support personnel for the military forces between 1776 and 1783"--Introd.
