Genealogy offered by the Rockbridge Historical Society in Lexington, Virginia. The genealogy was a photocopy of a manuscript book, p. 12-177, compiled by Professor Duncan Campbell Lyle.
The pedigree chart at the beginning of the genealogy starts with Archibald Alexander, a native of Scotland, and his three sons who sons emigrated to Ireland in the early part of the seventeenth century. The genealogy starts with Archibald Alexander who was born in 1708 in Ireland and was the great-grandson of the aforementioned Archibald Alexander. He emigrated with his wife Margaret Parks to Pennsylvania in 1736. In 1747 they moved to Rockbridge (then Augusta) County, Virginia. It includes his descendants, ca. 1736-1889, who lived in Virginia, Kentucky, New York, Tennessee, and elsewhere. It also includes Barclay, Caruthers, McClung, Paxton, Sterrett, Wilson and related families.
