Handwriting has faded and is hard to read in places.
Originally the parish vestry dealt with land processioning, care of the poor, apprenticeships and guardianships of orphans, levying of taxes, and other civil matters. Around 1785 the counties took over these functions and placed them under civil authorities. After that the parishes dealt only with church related matters.
Contains copy of vestry minutes for 1790, original vestry minutes 1827-1926, chronology of courthouse 1764-1767, genealogy of John Brown (died 1680) of Henrico and his family, list of vestry officers 1749-1780, and other information.
Vestry minutes contain names of church officers, handling of church funds and properties, and other church related matters. The vestry met at the Grub Hill Church.
