1979 transcript (typewritten, carbon copy) with introductory page by the donor, John Lee Newton, Dallas, Texas.
"Mrs. [Elizabeth Cissel] Foglesong [editor of 'The Means families of America'] commences her chapter dealing the Meanses of South Carolina with the following . . . 'It is not known from whom this branch of the Mean family descends'.".
The author uses the 'common place book' of his grandfather to identify the lineage of the South Carolina family of Means. He shows the direct lineage back to John Means (d.1739), of Scottish lineage, who immigrated (as a widower with three known children) from Ireland to Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1718.
