Make Plans for RootsTech 2025 Family Discovery Day

RootsTech by FamilySearch, the largest family celebration and genealogy event in the world, will be hosting its free Family Discovery Day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (mountain time) on Saturday, 8 March 2025, at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. In-person attendees will enjoy fun activities, games, and inspiration for the entire family! Key sessions will also be available online on-demand at RootsTech.org.

Elder Neil L. Andersen's Family Discovery Day 2025 Message

Elder Neil L. Andersen of The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and Sister Kathy Andersen

Elder Neil L. Andersen of The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and his wife, Sister Kathy Andersen, will share personal messages focused on accessing the blessings of the temple and family history. Elder Andersen plans to take attendees on a personal virtual journey with him back to the dairy farm of his formative years. Elder and Sister Andersen's session will begin at 1:30 p.m. on 8 March 2025. 

The Andersens' session will include a musical performance from The Piano Guys. The session will be available to watch online at RootsTech.org.

RootsTech Family Discovery Day 2025 Activities

Family Discovery Day activities are free and will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on 8 March 2025, at the Salt Palace Convention Center. Activities will include games, art projects, and fun things just for children, such as balloon art and face painting!

Attendees will have a chance to participate in a variety of traditional activities from Korean, Native American, and Latin American cultures. Additionally, young guests can experience some retro technology from the days of their ancestors and participate in DNA learning activities.

Family Discovery Day 2025 Classes

Family Discovery Day attendees can enjoy free RootsTech classes offered on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. In-person class seating will be limited. Renowned speakers such as T. C. Christensen, John and Kimberly Bytheway, and Scott and Angelle Anderson will be presenting. Topics covered in the classes include engaging teens in family discovery experiences, using your ancestors' stories to build emotional resilience, a Q and A panel on temple and family history callings, and Latter-day Saint genealogy, among others.
