RootsTech 2025: Discover Church Member Activities

A woman smiles at RootsTech.

RootsTech is the largest family discovery event in the world. It is an opportunity for experienced family history enthusiasts and people new to genealogy to learn more about their ancestors and the many discoveries to be made.

This year, RootsTech offers several amazing opportunities for you to connect with your own family stories.

The world's largest genealogy conference is now available to you online, with hundreds of classes and many powerful videos that are sure to inspire.

Activities in the Expo Hall

Two young women at RootsTech 2024 smile as they visit the Expo Hall.

RootsTech will be held in the Salt Palace Convention Center again this year and will be packed with activities for friends and families. The Expo Hall, open all 3 days of the conference, will be the main center for these activities. It is free to the public, and you do not need a RootsTech ticket to visit the Expo Hall.

Discovery Zone

One of the highlights of the conference will be the Discovery Zone, where people can engage in interactive and educational experiences. You can expect to find interactive displays, with old technologies and hands-on learning tools that teach about DNA and how it works. Interactive displays and fun crafts will highlight meaningful traditions and items from different parts of the world.

Art Exhibit

RootsTech will feature an art exhibition, showcasing artwork that captures the spirit of family history and discovery. Visitors can explore the gallery, uncover hidden stories, and enjoy the various forms of art inspired by different cultures around the world. This exhibition celebrates the creativity of discovery and the enduring power of family.

Service Project

We're thrilled to announce a unique service project called Tree Building, with everyone welcome to participate. This collaborative effort focuses on family history, allowing those with more experience to guide and assist people who are just starting out. Together, we'll fill out names, index records, and make meaningful genealogy connections, all while building our family trees.

But that's not all! There will be plenty of other opportunities to serve and make a difference. Stay tuned for more exciting details!

Classes

RootsTech 2024 attendees participate in an educational class about genealogy.

RootsTech 2025 is taking place in person in Salt Lake City, but for those who can’t attend, don’t worry! You can still participate in a variety of online classes, workshops, and experiences, as well as participate in a variety of in-person activities virtually! Be sure to explore the Latter-day Saint Sessions pages, available in several languages.

You can also watch past Family Discovery Day sessions. Last year, President M. Russell Ballard shared his experience with family history work, saying, “It’s very important to seek out and know what we can about those who came before us.” We are so excited for you to discover all that is in store this year at RootsTech.
