Can I use an unindexed image as a source in Family Tree?

Here's how to add an image from an unindexed microfilm or an unindexed record collection (records that currently do not have the option to search for your specific ancestor) as a source in Family Tree:

Steps (website)

  1. In the top right corner, click Attach to Family Tree.
  2. Enter information in the Notes field.
    • If you want to add this record to your Source Box for later use, check the box next to Add to Source Box.
  3. Click Next: Select Person
  4. Use the drop-down menu to select the name of a recently viewed person, or enter his or her ID number.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Enter your reason to attach the source, and then click Attach

Some records do not allow a direct attachment to Family Tree. When you do not see the Attach to Family Tree button, use the Create a Source option in the Sources section of Family Tree.

Steps (mobile app)

  1. Tap the attach icon (looks like a paperclip).
  2. Enter information in the Notes field.
    • If you want to add this record to your Source Box for later use, tap the box next to Add to Source Box.
  3. Tap Next: Select Person.
  4. Use the drop-down menu to select the name of a recently viewed person, or enter his or her ID number.
  5. Tap Next.
  6. Enter your reason for attaching the source, and then click Attach

Some records do not allow you to attach directly to Family Tree. When you do not see the Attach to Family Tree button, you can create a source from the image.
