Physical Donations


Thank you for your interest in donating materials to the FamilySearch Library. Please review our Gifts and Donations Policy carefully to become familiar with our collection priorities and acceptance criteria. If you have physical books that align with these goals that are not already represented in our catalog, we may be interested in acquiring them.

Please contact us by using the form below or by emailing books@familysearch.org. Our Acquisitions Specialist will review your proposed materials and communicate with you via email to coordinate your donation. The specialist may offer alternative avenues for your contribution should your donation fall outside our guidelines

The FamilySearch Library acquires books that support genealogical research and adhere to the following criteria:

Excludes information on living individuals and is in compliance with current privacy laws.

Well-organized, typed, bound, and shelf-ready books: multiple-generation family histories, local and county histories, and other genealogically valuable titles.

For digital donations, books must be submitted in a single PDF file and must include a signed Permission to Duplicate Form.

The FamilySearch Library does not accept

Directories, group sheets, pedigree charts, maps, atlases, journals, legal documents, loose files, original records, personal letters, photographs, or yearbooks.

How do I upload memories to FamilySearch?

Digital Donations


The FamilySearch Library accepts digital donations of scanned or born‑digital books that align with ourGifts and Donations Policy

A signed Permission to Duplicate Form is required for all digital content created or published after 1929.

Digital files must be submitted using our Digital Donation Form. Donors may upload up to 1 GB of files per submission; separate submissions are not required. After files are submitted, donors will receive an email invitation to complete the Permission to Duplicate Form.

The Library does not accept digital files submitted on flash drives, CDs, DVDs, or other physical storage media.

All digital submissions must:

  • Be in PDF format
  • Be typed and well organized
  • Include a title page listing the author and publication or creation date
