Ancestry is traced to Gilbert Beasant, born in 1579 in Wiltshire Parish, England. His son, Thomas, was a resident of Barbados. John Bessent, son of Thomas, and his wife, Lydia Edwards, came to Charleston, South Carolina in 1672. Descendants lived in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Texas, and elsewhere. Also includes some descendants of Tudor ap Meredith, born before 1367 in Hereford, England who married Margaret Vychan.
Includes Rowland, Delk, Goodman, Dobbs, Daniel, Edwards, Meredith, and related families.
