Samuel Walkup was probably born in Ireland of Scottish ancestry. He and his wife, Nancy Alexander, probably immigrated to America in 1724 and settled first in Pennsylvania. The family probably later migrated to Virginia. At least some of Samuel's and Nancy's children later settled in North and South Carolina. The Walkups, in many cases, were among the first to settled in Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa, New Mexico and on into California and Washington.
Includes the Stevenson, Brown, O'Neal, Hackbarth, Skinner, Lawson and other related families.
