"At the General Assembly of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, begun and holden by adjournment, at Providence, within and for said state, on the second Monday of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty four and in the forty eighth year of independence. Voted and resolved, that the committee appointed as the session of this assembly, in October 1822, to examine the ancient records of this state, and to report the best method of collecting and preserving an entire series of said records, be and they are hereby authorized to contract with Charles Gyles of Newport, to make under the direction of said Committee, a correct and legible copy of the two books of records now in the office of the General Treasurer, provided that the expence of copying said records shall not exceed two hundred dollars.".
