James H. Duff-McDuffee, son of John Duff Jr. and Sarah Haynes, was born 27 Dec 1811 in Washington County, Virginia. He married Lydia Emiline Harris in Monroe County, Tennessee on 30 July 1833. They had 7 children. Lydia filed for divorce on 12 Feb 1850 in Cleveland, Bradley County, Tennessee. James "eloped' with Nancy Ann Whitson, daughter of Joseph Whitson and Lucy, on 17 Oct 1849 from Polk County, Tennessee. Nancy was born 15 June 1824 in South Carolina. They had 9 children. James changed his surname to McDuffee after they moved from Tennessee. Nancy died 20 Apr 1899 in Wayne County, Illinois and James died there on 13 June 1907. Their descendants have lived in Illinois, Tennessee, California, Missouri, and other areas in the United States. .
