William Hammock (1623-ca. 1701) was born at Ermingshire Parish, Devon, England. He immigrated to America in 1656 and settled in Northhampton County, Virginia. He and his wife, Alice, had three children. His great grandson, Robert Hammock (1737-1800), a soldier in the Georgia Militia, was born in Richmond County, Virginia, the son of Robert Hammock (ca. 1703-1786/7) and Ann Lambert Hammock (ca. 1710-after 1787). He and his wife, Milenor Ann Jackson (ca. 1737-ca. 1832), had six sons and six daughters. Robert died in Wilkes County, Georgia. His widow died in Jones County, Georgia. His grandson, Hope Hull Hammock (1806-187-), married Martha Ann McCrary in 1830 in Talbot County, Georgia. They had two children, 1831-1834. Descendants listed lived in Georgia, Florida, Texas and elsewhere. The surname is also spelled Hammack.
