Ancestry traced to Robert and Martha Rowland who purchased land in Augusta County (later Botetourt County), Virginia as early as 1746. Robert later died in 1782. His son, William, married Sarah Potts (1745-1829) and later died in 1776 in Botetourt County. William's son, John (1766-1843), married Nancy Barnett (1777-1844) in 1796 in Washington County, Kentucky, settling in Mercer County, Kentucky. Both later died in Boone County, Missouri. Descendants lived in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and elsewhere.
Includes Alexander, Crow/Crowe, McQuitty, Phillips, Bridgforth, Riggs, Seymour, Singleton, Wilhite, and related families.
