Thomas Sewell (1597-1649) emigrated from England and was granted land in Prince George County, Virginia in 1619. He was granted land in York County, Virginia, in 1635; and land in Glouster County, Virginia, in 1642. He and his wife, Mercy, had at least two sons. Descendants listed lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Ohio and elsewhere. The surname is spelled Seewell, Seawell, and Sowell. Record chiefly traces male lines.
