Seth Manis (1762-1852), a Revolutionary War soldier, was born in Bedford County, Virginia, probably the son of William Manis. He may have migrated to Moore County, North Carolina, with his family as early as 1765. He was living there in 1780 when he joined the army. He and his wife, Susan "Patsy" Fields (1763-1853), had eight children, ca. 1782-between 1800 & 1810. The family migrated to Hawkins County, Tennessee, by 1795. Seth and Patsy Manis are buried on the old home place north of Rogersville, Tennessee. Descendants listed lived in Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and elsewhere. Many descendants spell their surname Manes or Maners. .
