This statewide index covers the counties from Adams through Racine.
These records are arranged in alphabetical order by last name of both bride and groom. When using this index, the columns headed "County B", "Vol." and "Sequence", are of no help in searching the marriage records in this library.
Marriage record page numbers are important and are usually found stamped in the upper left hand corner of the record page. Marriage certificate numbers are also stamped on each record. On the marriage record page there are usually 2 numbers; the first is a 5 digit number which is the marriage certificate number and is in numerical sequence. The second number is of 3 digits and corresponds to the page number as shown on the marriage index microfiche.
Because each county recorded and indexed their own records, access to original marriage records should be thru the county in which they are located. Marriage certificate information for most records includes the following information: date of registration of marriage record name of husband date of marriage residence of husband maiden name of wife place of marriage birthplace of husband maiden name of husband's mother name of husband's father maiden name of wife's mother name of wife's father occupation of husband.
