About 900 descendants of Humphrey Belt : born about 1615 probably in Scotland, died 1696 in Maryland, USA, sailed from Gravesend, England, on the Ship America, landed at Jamestown, Virginia on 23 July 1635. He is generally accepted as the progenitor of all present-day Belts in the United States.

Humphrey Belt was born in Europe and immigrated to Virginia in 1635, where he settled in Lower Norfolk. He married (1) Anne and (2) Margery Cragges ca. 1649. He later moved to Anne Arundel County, Maryland in 1663. His known children were John, Anne, and Sarah. Descendants lived in Maryland, Kentucky, Missouri, Texas, Ohio, Illinois, Kansas, and elsewhere. Also includes information on Ninian Beall (1625-1717), born in Largo, Fifeshire, Scotland, died in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
