Notes

The emigrant ancestor, Richard Talent, sailed from London, England in 1697. Where he settled in America is unknown. Family members are found in Massachusetts and New Hampshire in the early and mid 1700s. In 1786 William Tallent (b. ca. 1740/60) married his second wife, Elizabeth Skidmore, in King George Co., Va. Two sons of William, Christopher and William, moved from King George County, Va. to Westmoreland county between 1810 and 1820. They eventually settled in a place that became Tallent Town. Descendants live in Virginia, Maryland and elsewhere.
