John Haynie was born in Virginia and migrated to South Carolina in 1769. He married Mary Saunders (1744-1792), daughter of Thomas and Marie Jones Saunders and (2) Elizabeth Hanks, daughter of Luke Hanks II and Nancy Ann Dale Hanks. Descendants lived in South Carolina, Alabama, and elsewhere. Also includes Hanks family who came from Malmsbury, England to Virginia. Thomas Hanks bought land in Gloucester County, Virginia in 1653. His descendant, Luke Hanks II (1715-1789), moved to Anderson County, South Carolina.

Includes Hanks, Prince, Strickland, Wilson, and related families.
