History of John Rice Barlow, son of Joseph Clifton Barlow and Minnie Jo Rice. Joseph was the son of Benjamin Beauregard Barlow and Frances Ella Walker. Minnie was the daughter of John Dabney Rice and Florence Belle Brittain. Barlow ancestry is traced to Thomas Barlow (ca. 1635-1679) who was brought to Virginia ca. 1653 by his father, Henry. They lived in the Isle of Wight County, Virginia from 1663. He married Elizabeth Moore. Descendants lived in Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, and elsewhere. Howard ancestry is traced to John Howard (ca. 1738-ca. 1800) who came to Virginia from England and later settled in South Carolina. Stewart ancestry is traced to John Stewart (1730-1784) who married Ann Haw. They lived in Hanover, Cumberland, and Amherst counties in Virginia. Walker ancestry is traced to Mason Walker (1766.70-ca. 1835) and his wife, Mary, who were born in Virginia and lived in South Carolina and Georgia. Also includes genealogies of unrelated families living in the Spurger area. Book primarily focuses on life of John Barlow during years of 1948-1953.
