William Pruitt, Sr. (1714-1817) was born in Virginia. He married Mary Martin ca. 1747. They had ten children and lived in North Carolina, Virginia and by 1783 in Greene County, Tennessee. In 1807 some family members moved to Madison County, Alabama. Descendants live in Texas, Alabama, Arizona, Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, California and elsewhere.
Includes Prewitt/Preuit/Pruett/Pruitt and Gilbreath, Hallmark, Hellums, Roden, Simmons, Underwood, Francis and allied families.
