Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Bates families who came mainly from England and Ireland, and settled in mainly Virginia. Some focus is on (but not limited to) ancestors: immigrant John Bates (1598-1666) of York County, Virginia; William Bates of Wythe County (died 1811); James Bates of Stafford/King George County (born ca. 1700); Robert Bates (ca. 1745-ca. 1851) of Albemarle County, Virginia; William Bates of Madison/Culpeper County (died ca. 1794); William Bates (ca. 1646-ca. 1684) of Essex County, Virginia; Edward Bates of Richmond County and Fairfax County, Virginia (died 1762); Thomas Bates of Amelia County, Virginia (died 1755); a Revolutionary War soldier, Ephriam Batges of old Augusta County, Virginia; and John Bates who married Francess Burnett in 1796. Some progenitors settled in New Jersey and Virginia in the 1600's. In the 1700's, some moved to Connecticut, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, and West Virginia. During the 1800's, some moved to Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. Later descendants also lived in Australia, England, and in Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, Utah, Washington D.C., and elsewhere.
