Notes

The Superior Court of Chancery at Winchester was established in 1812 and was also known as the District Court of Chancery. Records may include cases from the Superior Courts of Chancery at Staunton and Richmond and the District Court at Winchester. The Winchester district was composed of the counties of Frederick, Berkeley, Shenandoah, and Jefferson. It may also have included other counties. The Superior Court of Chancery was replaced in 1831 by the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery.

The dates given are the court dates. Many documents given in evidence have dates as early as the 1740's. Some evidence came from other courts.

Contains copies of deeds, depositions, accounts, surveys, and other supporting evidence for the cases.
