Lawrence Shook, probably of "Pennsylvania Dutch" ancestry, was a member of the Maryland militiea in 1757/8. He and his wife had at least five children, 1763-1777. The family migrated to Hampshire County, Virginia, in 1773 and were living in Hardy County, Virginia, by 1786. He migrated to Illinois with his sons ca. 1801. He died between 1817 and 1822. Descendants listed, especially ancestral families and descendants of Cleveland Eldred "Ted" Shook (1891-1987), lived in Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska and elsewhere.
Includes the Gier, Close and other related families.
Also includes the Hale (Nicholas Hales, d. ca. 1671 of Lancaster County, Virginia), Corwin (James Corwin, ca. 1755-before 1830, of Ontario County, New York), Wright (Edward Wright, 1634-1691, of Warwickshire and Sudbury, Massachusetts) and other ancestral families of Cleveland Eldred Shook.
