The church was organized in 1837 as the New Salem congregation of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In 1852 the name was changed to Neosho. No meetings were held beginning in 1860 because of the Civil War until 1867 when the church was reorganized. In 1887 the church was again reorganized after a fire destroyed the building in 1884. In 1907 the church merged with the First Presbyterian Church, also of Neosho.
