On the title page of the 1st vol. the name of the church reads: Zion Congregation of the Evangelical Association at Providence Ridge. Providence Ridge is not an incorporated town in today's Will County, but it was (may still be) in Jackson Township, Will County, Ill. A number of names appear to be used for the church in the 1st vol. Among them: (1) Manhattan Providence Ridge Church; (2) Zion Evangelical Church; (3) Providence Ridge Church of the Evangelical Association; (4) Manhattan Mission. . The church split & in 1894 the splinter church was named the Grace Evangelical Church of South Providence Ridge also located in Jackson Township, Will County, Illinois. The incorporation of this church is indicated in the 2nd vol. [the 3rd vol. found with item 10 on film 1928180. The 2nd vol. is another church, cataloged separately]. . Later, ca. 1922, apparently after the churches had merged together again, the old Providence Ridge church was wrecked. The materials were used to build the First Evangelical Church of Manhattan, Ill. Records for that church are included.
There were other churches or congregations referred to in the 1st vol.: Star [or Starr] Grove & North Ridge. There is a Star Grove Cemetery in today's Will County, presumed to be in the area called Star Grove in the 1st vol. . The North Ridge congregation was once the United Brethren Church at the North Ridge. North Ridge school, also in today's Will County, is presumed to be the area once (still is?) called North Ridge.
