"The church in Saybrook was organized about 1646 and became Saybrook First Society. Part was set off as Saybrook North Society May 1722 and part was set off as Saybrook West Society May 1724. The First Society was sometimes called the South Society. Part of Saybrook including this society was incorporated May 1852 as Old Saybrook.".
