John Winston was born before 1555 and married Johane Skerrels in Yapton, England in 1571. His great grandson Samuel Winstead (Winston) (ca. 1671-1726), was born in Lancaster County, Virginia and died in Northumberland County, Virginia. Samuel's son, Samuel (1701-ca.1774), was born in Northumberland County.

Daniel Winstead was born in 1721 in Northumberland County, Virginia, to Samuel Winstead, Jr. (1701-1774). Daniel married Elizabeth Catherine around 1748. They had 6 children. Daniel died in 1793 in Northumberland County, Virginia. Descendants lived in Virginia, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Washington, and elsewhere.

John (James) Winstead was born ca. 1730 in Northumberland County, Virginia, to Samuel Winstead, Jr. (1701-1774). He married Elizabeth and they had one son, James W. Winstead (1750-1785). John died in 1761 while Elizabeth died in 1764, both in Virginia. Descendants lived in Virginia, Maryland, and elsewhere.
