Joseph Baynham was born in Virginia and married Caroline Smith. Their son, Alexander, was born in Halifax, Virginia in 1842. He married Eliza Jane Rossiter, born in 1843 in Tennessee. Descendants lived in Tennessee, Montana, Washington, and elsewhere.
