Thomas Spragg (1729-1812) was born at Hempstead, Long Island, the son of Edward and Margaret Spragg. He and Mary Carman were married in 1752 at Hempstead. They had eight children. A Loyalist, he fought with the British during the Revolutionary War. The family immigrated to Kings County, New Brunswick, Canada, in 1783. He and his wife are buried at Bayview Cemetery, Hatfield point, New Brunswick. His son, Caleb Spragg (1766-1830) was born at Fishkill, New York. He married Ann Harding in 1788. They had eleven children, 1789-1810. Descendants of their sons who immigrated to Iowa, especially, descendants of their son, William Spragg (1804-ca. 1858), lived in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Kansas, and elsewhere.

The author includes a lot of material about her parents, Lester Rhuel Spragg (1902-1979) and Ruth Evelyn Clark Spragg (1903-1988) and their family.
