Chiefly ancestors, relatives, and descendants, of the author and his wives. William Monroe McLaurine was born in 1880 was born on a small farm near Waco Hill, Tennessee, the son of Horace Laird McLaurine (1850-1934) and Sallie May Witt McLaurine (1856-1936). After two years at Peabody College at Nashville, Tennessee, he took a job teaching school at Ailey, Georgia. There he met and married Carrie (Caroline) Peterson in 1902. They had one daughter born at Ailey in 1905. Caroline Johann Peterson (1881-1906) was born in Montgomery County, Georgia, the daughter of William J. Peterson (1849-1915) and Catherine Johanna Calhoun Peterson (1856-1914). She died of typhoid fever at Ailey, Georgia. After her death, he returned to Peabody to complete his BA degree. There he met again and married his former fiancee, Amelia Townsend Douglas, in 1907. They had three children, 1908-1913. Amelia Townsend Douglas was born in 1881, the daughter of David Douglas (1831-1907) and Maggie More Allen Douglas (1838- 1923). His descendants and relatives lived in Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, and elsewhere.
Ancestors include: Robert McLaurine (ca. 1728-1773) of Scotland and Virginia -- John Laird (1770-1861) of Belfast, Ireland, North Carolina, and Tennessee -- William Witt (1675-1754 of France and Albemarle County, Virginia -- Macolm Peterson (1772-1842) of North Carolina and Georgia -- David Douglas (1831-1907) of Ayre, Scotland, Connecticut, Iowa, and Tennessee.
