"This record on the east family of Russellville was started in 1913 by Mrs. Mary E. Cross of Cherokee, Ala. She was reared in the home of her grandfather, Thomas East, and his first wife, Mary Suggs East. In 1930, Elizabeth Cross Brotherton started collecting.".

Contains East chronological lists, genealogical sketches, extracts from census and other public records, notes, genealogical correspondence, a copy of the family record from Sarah Graves East's Bible, dated 1844, family group sheets, records from the Thomas East Cemetery, application for Mary Elizabeth Cross to join the Daughters of the Confederacy, 1910, etc.

Thomas East and Salley Graves were married in 1790. They had thirteen children, 1791-1814. Descendants listed lived in Alabama, Tennessee, and elsewhere.
