Bernard Peyton Chamberlain (1896-1983) was born on a plantation in Albermarle County, Virginia to William Chandler and Mary Chastien Peyton Chamberlain. The Chamberlains were of old New England stock while the Peytons had been in Virginia for generations. William married Mary in 1895 and they settled on an old plantation. They were the parents of two children, Bernard and a brother, William. In 1929 he married Elsie Schuyler Williams of New York. They were the parents of two children.
