Jonathan Taylor Grimes (1818-1903) was a direct descendant in the eighth generation of Charles Grymes (b.1612), the English immigrant to York County, Virginia. Jonathan was the first child of George Grimes (1790-1869) and Elizabeth Donahoe. In 1839 he moved from Virginia to Ross County, Ohio and then to Chicago, whereupon he turned back to land near Terre Haute, Indiana. He married Eliza Angeline Gordon in 1843, and in 1855 they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Some descendants became members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and lived in Utah, California and elsewhere. Other descendants immigrated to Alberta and elsewhere in Canada. Most descendants and relatives lived in Indiana, Minnesota, Washington, California, New York, Maryland, Virginia and elsewhere.
