Frederick Billing was born in 1833 in Bledlow, Buckinghamshire, England. His father, William Billing, died in 1834 and his mother, Eliza (Delahoy) then married Frederick Miles in 1839 and went to Fredericton, New Brunswick to live. Frederick Miles died in 1842 and Eliza married R.W. Cushman in 1843. Billing ancestry is traced to Richard Billing (1676-1755) of Newington, England. Smith ancestry is traced to Nathan Smith (1737-1818) who was born in Stamford, Connecticut and later lived in Oyster Bay, Long Island. He married Elizabeth Betts (1746-1784) in 1761 in Stamford. Both later died in St. John, New Brunswick. Edith Miles married John Robert Todd, son of John Robert Todd (1850-1907) and Fannie Louise Mayer (1863-1904). Todd ancestry is traced to John Buchanan Todd (1783-1863) who was born in Nashville, Tennessee and died in Madison, Indiana. Kemper ancestry includes John Peter Kemper (1717-1788) who married Elizabeth Fishbach (1723-1768) of Virginia.
