Notes
The two previous editions were published under different titles: first, English convicts in colonial America, 2 vols.(c1974-76); second, Bonded passengers to America, 9 vols. in 3 (c1983). "The 1983 edition incorporated the two volumes of 1974 and 1976 for Middlesex and London, added records from the Assize and Palatinate courts for the rest of the counties of England, and was introduced by a history of transportation. Omitting the history, this present edition - in one volume - incorporates the previous records, adds new records of the Courts of Quarter Session, and integrates all the records into a single alphabetical sequence"-- T.p. verso.
"... in view of the volume and diversity of the sources used, any who seek more detailed notes and references are advised to consult those which prefaced volumes in the original series of Bonded Passengers to America." -- Intro.
