The Barry/Barri families originally from Wales and Ireland as early as 1040. Col. Charles Barry (1660-1730) was born at Gouldings Freehold, Santry, Ireland, a son of Rev. William Barry and his second wife, Elizabeth Kelly. He was married (1) to Mary Simon in 1683 and (2) to Elizabeth, daughter of John and Elizabeth Cuffe Kelly of Kellycount (Kellycourt?), County Kilkenny. Col. Charles Barry's children: 1. Rev. William T. Barry (b. 1683/84) born at Newton, Co. Louth, Ireland came to America in 1720. He married Margaret Moore ca. 1718. He died aft. 1766 probably in Lunenburg Co., Va. 2. Charles Barry (b. 1704) came to America in 1720. He married Mary Racheal Rogers 1729 in Boston. He died 1734 at sea. He is the ancestor of the Barrys in this volume. 3. James Barry (b. 1706) married Mary Buckner in 1727. He came to America in 1732. He died in Virginia. 4. Thomas Barry b. ca. 1708, emigrated in 1720. 5. Richard (b. ca. 1710); 6. John Barry (b. ca. 1712); 7. Elizabeth Barry (b. 1714); 8. Eleanor Barry (b. 1716); and 9. Margaret Barry (b. ca. 1718). Descendants live in Oklahoma, Mississippi, Virginia and elsewhere.
