The Paris Religious Society, a Congregational church, voted in 1817 to become a Presbyterian Church. A separate Congregational church was established, but according to the history of the society, the existence of both of these churches confused members and caused dissention as members tried to decide which of the churches to attend. This problem was resolved in 1823 when the two churches voted to combine and form the United Presbyterian Congregational Church in Paris. In 1825, the church became known as the Congregational Church of Paris.
