By enactment of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, each township assessor at the time of taking lists of property for taxation, was to list all persons who served in the United States armies, as well as their widows and orphans. Assessors were to return their listings to the County Clerks who in turn sent them to the Adjutant General for the State to be put on permanent file in his office.

Contains an enrollment of persons employed in the late armies of the United States, ie: the War of 1812; the War of the United States with Mexico; the War of 1861; and of all wars of the United States with Indian tribes.

Arranged by county and by each township within a county, alphabetically by surname.
