Earliest known ancestor, Robert Peale (Peele), was given land in 1663 on Pasquotank River (now in North Carolina). In 1674 he was living in Nansemond Co., Virginia. He was married (1) to Sarah Jarret (d. 1720); (2) Judith Norseworthy. In 1741 when this family moved to Northampton Co., N.C., the spelling of their surname was Peelle. Prior to that Peale or Peele was used in records. John Peelle (1781-1869), son of Reuben and Rhoda Peelle, was born in Wayne Co., N.C. In 1805 he moved to Grayson Ca., Va. He met and married Lydia Bundy (d. 1856) 1807 in Belmont County, Ohio. They lived in various places in Ohio, until they settled in Clinton County (later became Wilson Twp.), Ohio in 1820.
