Samuel Alley was born in 1761 in Henrico County, Virginia, the son of James L, and Azby Christian Alley. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He married Mary (Polly) Osborne, daughter of Stephen and Comfort Lanham Osborne in 1786 at Abingdon, Virginia. They had eleven children, 1787-1810, born in Scott County, Virginia. He died in 1847 in Shelby County, Indiana, and is buried in the Alley Cemetery, Clifty, Decatur County, Indiana. Descendants lived in Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and elsewhere. Some descendants spelled their name Allee.
