Ancestry of Spruills is traced to Dr. Godfrey Spruill (1650-1718/19) who lived in Virginia as early as 1684 and later settled in North Carolina. Many descendants lived in Tyrell County, North Carolina. One descendant, Benjamin Spruill, son of Benjamin Spruill and Susana Thomas, married Nancy Midyett in 1835. She was the daughter of John Midyett and Lois Spruill. Descendants lived in North Carolina and elsewhere.
