Microfilm of originals in the Fayette County courthouse in Fayette, Alabama.

Fayette County was created 20 December 1824 from Marion and Pickens counties. All of the mentioned counties have had courthouse fires, Fayette's occurring in 1866. Few records prior to 1866 have survived. County boundaries have shifted many times prior to the reconstruction period.

Marriage records are racially segregated after 1912.
