John Nickell (1728-1774) settled on the Scotch-Irish settlement in Augusta County, Virginia in 1749. He was born at Ulster near Grotin, in County Tyrone, Ireland. His sons settled on the Greenbrier River in Monroe County, West Virginia. One son settled in Morgan County, Kentucky. He married Barbara McCombe, the granddaughter of John Young, Jr. His six sons served in the Revolutionary War. His third son was Joseph Nickell (1750-1829) who married Elizabeth Fowler, the daughter of Robert and Anne Fowler of Augusta. Several generations of descendants are given. Descendants lived in Kentucky, Kansas, Oklahoma and elsewhere.
Includes McCombe, Fowler, Cottle, Nelson, Feamster, Fugate and other related families.
