William Alsup Sr. (d.1729/1730), probably an English immigrant, married Mary East of Henrico County, Virginia, and settled in Hanover County, Virginia in 1723. William Alsup Jr. (1690-1788) and his family moved from Hanover County to York County, Virginia. James Alsup Sr. (b.ca.1756/1757) was a direct descendant in the fourth generation. He lived in Hanover and Henry Counties in Virginia, and probably moved about 1780/1781 to land near Jonesboro, Tennessee. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas and elsewhere.
